Yes, Yorkshire terrier is a popular dog breed of choice in the US especially for dog lovers who have dog allergies. This is due to the fact that they have hairs, instead of fur, which makes them trigger fewer allergic reactions compared to other dog breeds.
Considered a toy dog, a Yorkie is a perfect dog for apartments or small spaces. As companion dogs, these lovable creatures are also a good match for senior citizens due to their affectionate and gentle nature. Aside from that, they can also serve as guard dogs as they are generally protective of their owners which makes them a good choice for families with children.
Like any other puppies, Yorkie puppies require lots of sleep as they are still growing. Furthermore, their sleeping time can range from 16 up to 22 hours per day.
Since Yorkshire terriers can be territorial, their barking can be triggered by any sounds they could hear around them. Whether it is someone knocking at the door, your phone ringing, or some kitchen appliances running, you would surely hear your beloved pet bark. It can also be due to several reasons. They may be alerting you of possible danger or they are simply communicating with you.
Taking care of a Yorkshire terrier requires a bit of work in terms of grooming. Since they do not shed, their long silky hair does require daily brushing and regular trimming. Moreover, they may also need weekly baths, nail clipping, and ear cleaning.
